Just one question and one comment.
1- How do you propose we get the hydrogen needed to replace the oil, coal and gasoline without burning more oil, coal and gasoline? A typical operational figure on energy needed is about 48 kWh per kg of hydrogen and we do not have the renewable infrastructure for mass hydrogen production let alone retire existing coal plants. Let's say we can build it and burn more oil on top of our present needs while we construct the needed infrastructure and hydrogen but it will take a dacade or two, years which we do not have. Also, rest of the world has to as well. If its just the US it is meaningless.
2- Sure, the fossil fuel industry has the skill set to pump CO2 in the ground - so that they can frack more oil OUT of the ground and burn it and release more CO2. Is it really wise to rely on the fox to guard the henhouse?
3- Bonus question - How do you feel about pouring R&D dollars into safer nuclear power which we know does not emit GHGs?
