The world we have is headed to 3 - 3.5 degrees C warmer by 2100 and living below the 40th parallel looks like it will be quite impossible by 2080. Market forces are created by people, people who can not imagine anything else and are oblivious to their impending doom because they are brainwashed. "Planning " to implement "imperfect solutions" to existential crises about to wipe out whole populations is normalizing the coming destruction, hoping that it happens to someone else, someone less fortunate. And pretending that that is "all we can do because... the free-market needs to profit" is insane and immoral.

BTW -The last year with updated data, the world consumed roughly 23,696 TWh of electricity according to the IEA.

This equates to 64.92 TWh on a daily basis.

Assuming an average of 3.5 hours of peak sunlight hours (this differs greatly based on where the solar panels would be, but using a conservative average), that means we’ll need 18.54 TW of solar power installed. If we used 350W solar panels, we’d need 51.428 BILLION solar panels.

That doesn't even take into account the "GROWTH" that is essential for that "free" market to continue.

Not to mention storage systems needed to solve the problem of intermittency and energy storage.

While "waiting for fusion" we can still implement the techonolgies we know works and/or can be developed quicker. We do NOT have the time, even if we could, to install 19 TWH of renewable anything. THAT is the world we live in.

After 20 years in finance I realized it was all a lie. Now I'm trying to figure out what 'it' is. Human being tired of being lied to.
